Cullen Truett, DO

Licensed Psychiatrist

I treat adults experiencing a variety of mental health conditions from Major Depressive Disorder to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. I believe that collaborative, pragmatic care rigorously grounded in evidence-based practice is crucial to the healing process. As a consultation liaison psychiatrist, I have experience working with patients who have complex medical needs such as organ transplant, cancer, or neurological conditions like Parkinson’s disease. Through direct and honest communication, I apply my experience as an educator and advocate to assist individuals in establishing their treatment goals and setting expectations for progress on their unique journey toward healing.

Outside of my clinical practice, I am a writer and presenter. I have co-authored multiple book chapters on the diagnosis and management of depression in the context of medical illness as well as the treatment of schizophrenia in organ transplantation. I frequently present at the American Psychiatric Association annual meeting and was recently recognized as an international fellow of the Japanese Society for Psychiatry and Neurology, presenting on the role of telepsychiatry in reducing suicide. Additionally, I have served on the American Psychiatric Association’s delirium guidelines writing group and scientific programming committee. In 2023, I was selected as a Thought Leadership Fellow by the Boston Congress for Public Health.

My practice is rooted in accessible, inclusive, culturally responsive care. Your agency and various identities are the foundations of successful treatment. I currently provide services in English and Spanish.

I am fully licensed in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.
